Will Smith
has come under fire after his latest promotional video for the *Based on a True
Story* summer tour appeared to include AI-generated audience clips.
The video
showed huge crowds cheering, holding banners, and reacting with excitement, but
many viewers quickly pointed out strange glitches: faces that looked oddly
distorted, hands with too many fingers, and banners that seemed poorly
rendered.
One of the
banners read, *“‘You Can Make It’ helped me survive cancer. Thanks Will,”* but
fans noticed the hand holding it looked unnaturally warped.
Reactions
online were quick:
* “AI crowd,
fake comments, bots — this wasn’t necessary at all.”
* “Some
faces are literally melting. That looks bad.”
* “Why fake
the hype when the shows already look popular?”
Experts
suggested the unusual visuals could also be the result of video compression or
upscaling from older sources, especially from YouTube. It’s possible that real
concert clips were used but enhanced in editing, leading to strange effects
that made them appear AI-generated.
Still, the controversy has left many fans questioning why AI-like edits were used in promoting a tour that already had strong audience support.
